The club offers 3 exciting and rewarding programs that ensure the experience is fun and rewarding for both the skater and the parent. We offer the Canskate program, the all-new Junior Academy for pre-junior and junior skaters, as well as the Intermediate/Senior Skate program.
This program teaches the fundamentals of skating. Skaters who participate in this program learn the basic skills enabling them to continue on in figure skating, hockey and speed skating. Skaters are grouped according to their ability and/or age. The "Canskaters" work at different skills at the various stations on the ice. Skaters are evaluated throughout the season and are presented with badges as they achieve the goals for the various levels of achievement.

We have several coaches on the ice at all times. In addition, our older skaters volunteer as helpers. The high ratio of coaches and helpers to skaters ensures each skater receives the attention and instruction they require.
At the end of the season, your skater will have the opportunity to participate in our annual Carnival. This is the time that they showcase all they have achieved throughout the year. The high energy atmosphere, music, fun games and superb skating instruction combine to ensure the experience is rewarding for the skater and the parent.
The Mile Zero Figure Skating Club is pleased to be offering a new program for our Pre-Junior and Junior skaters - JUNIOR ACADEMY.
To meet Sport Canada's mandate to promote skill development in our young athletes, a new coaching program, Long Term Athlete Development Model has been developed by the BC/YT Section of Skate Canada. The Junior Academy program meets the goals of the Long Term Athlete Development Model. The Mile Zero Figure Skating Club has been selected as the only club in CNCR (Cariboo North Central Region) to run the pilot project for this program.
As a Pre-Junior skater, your child will skate two times per week for 2 - 45 minutes sessions.
As a Junior skater, your child will skate three times per week for 2 - 45 minutes sessions and 1 - 60 minute session.
The 45 minute skate session is broken down as follows:
These sessions are for the older skaters who will generally have some skating background. Skaters who skate at this level are expected to be able to work independently on their skating skills. There is some group and stroking instruction as well as a private lesson time.
In addition, a weekly off-ice session is offered which focuses on developing core strength, endurance, flexibility, dance and general fitness in a group environment. There is no additional cost for this. All skaters are strongly encouraged to attend these sessions. Skaters will benefit greatly from the fitness sessions.
The Mile 0 Figure Skating Club is unique in that we offer our skaters an opportunity to participate in our Synchronized skating program.
The off-ice sessions and synchro sessions are fun for the skaters. It provides them an opportunity to socialize with their fellow skaters, make new friendships and experience the "club" atmosphere.
